(Zaman Al Wasl)- About 20 thousands people have been trapped by the Islamic State in the newly-captured town of Qaryatayn east of Homs, activists said.

Media activist Abdullah al-Kareem said ISIS is using civilains as human shields refusing to let them leave to the eastern countryside of Homs amid severe living conditions since regime forces blockaded the desert town two weeks ago.

The regime army which was defeated by ISIS on September 29 in Qarayatyn has cut all communication means, including the internet.
