Islamic State will carry out an imminent offensive on rebel-held districts in the eastern Qalamoun on the enclaves of the Syrian desert, in an effort to capture ammunition depots of Islam Army, rebel source told Zaman al-Wasl.
Activists said ISIS first target is to capture arms depots of Jaysh al-Islam in al-Batra hill and to press more advances after taking control of Makale' al-Ruhaiba and al-Mihsa village in Qalamoun region.
Rebel source says ISIS is mobilizing forces after huge reinforcements arrived from east Syria and Iraq.
Most rebel factions in Syrian desert, known as Badiyat al-Sham, have recently engaged in fierce fighting with ISIS that plans to expand territory it controls in Syria and Iraq as well as to open a supply route for its fighters in the western Qalamoun who have been trapped between Syrian regime forces and Hezbollah militia.
Last week, ISIS took control of historic city of Palmyra and al-Tanf, last border crossings with Iraq. Such gains have sparked fears among both Syrian regime and Islamist rebels.
More than 220,000 people have been killed since the start of Syria's uprising against President Bashar Assad in March 2011.
