The Syrian air force on Saturday extended its intense aerial campaign against rebel-held areas in the northern province of Aleppo, conducting a series of airstrikes that killed at least 57 people, activists said.
Zaman al-Wasl reporter said at least 45 people, including women and children, were killed in barrel bomb attacks on local market in ISIS-held town of al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.
Activists also reported killing of 12 people in al-Shaaar neighborhood in Aleppo Saturday morning.
For months, the regime has waged an unrelenting aerial campaign against the opposition-held areas making particular use of crude so-called barrel bombs.
Rights groups criticize the weapons as indiscriminate and say they are more likely to cause civilian casualties.
Syria's four-year-old war has killed more than 220,000 people and forced millions out of their homes.
