(By Abdullah al-Ghadawi; Translation by Yusra Ahmed)

Many of politicians and military experts think that Kurds’ goals of the Syrian revolution are different from the Arabs’, but still they do not feel secure and their future is unclear amid the chaos in the region.

Zaman al-Wasl met Haron Kobani, the Commander of the Western Front in Kobani town northeast Syria to know his vision of the situation and conflict with Islamists, besides the future of Arab- Kurds relation and the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

In regard to the battle with the Islamic State (ISIS), the commander explained that it has not finished yet, although it left Ain al-Arab (Kobani), because the Islamic State has targeted them in different forms and under different names, as the state tried to excite the religious and ethnic conflicts.

“All realize that ISIS is a terrorist group and we all have to fight it till defeating it wherever it were, they do not target Kurds in Kobani only, but in all over Syria, therefore we have to fight it to protect our areas and people.”

Haron Kobani expressed that they are ready to support and defend Arab people whatever their background was if they were attacked by the Islamic State. “people protection Units are for all Syrians, not for Kurds only, but that needs cooperation with other military forces, otherwise we might be accused of occupying Arabic regions if we wanted to defend them, therefore fighting terrorism could be turned into ethnic disorder and internal conflicts.”

In regard to the future of People's Protection Units (YPG) the commander explained that they do not have any problem in engaging with the future Syrian Army as long as It would protect the whole Syrian people without any discrimination. But he insisted that it would need agreement and coordination with the coming government.

About the relation with the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the commander explained that (FSA) has many groups and battalions, many of them fight for the benefit of the country, while other have connections with external countries like Turkey, or connection to the Islamic State. “We as Kurds, have friends of the Free Syrian Army, like Burkan Furat, Raqqa’s revolutionists” who fight beside us against the Islamic State and have national goals like ours.”

In regard to his attitude toward an Islamic Government ruling Syria in future, Kobani explained that main criteria Kurds are interested in are the rights of minorities the government would give. Moreover, he expressed that recent picture of Islam prevailing the middle East is deformation of the real Islam of Mohammed, which call for democracy and equality.

About the Kurds’ relations with the Syrian regime, the commander explained that they want to guarantee their rights by their support to the Syrian revolution, as they do not want to have the same bad experience when their efforts were not appreciated or their rights were not guaranteed, such as in liberating Syria from the Turkish occupation, or their support in the Iranian revolution.
