Zaman al-Wasl has obtained a new list of 958 Syrian army officers who were killed during the Syrian conflict. The list includes the date of death with circumstances behind.
There was 70 officers among the killed members ranged between the highest rank, Lieutenant-General Bassam Antakiya, Major General, Brigadier General, Colonel and Major.
According to the remarks put next to each body, most death reasons resulted from military operations like traps, explosions and battles, other were killed because of road accidents, and heart attacks like Lieutenant-General Antakiya.
The list included other military members like officers and non-commissioned officers from different military bases (the fourth and fifth Brigades, the Republican Guards, the Special Forces) while others were security members from the Air-forces intelligence, the military security, the State Security and General intelligence).
The list showed killed members from the popular Committees and others from the Palestinian Liberation Army as 3 officers were among the killed.
The surprising fact that list documented was the killing of 3 officers outside the county, in Yemen and Algeria in particular.
Toward the end of October 2011, the Syrian regime confessed the killing of 8 pilots and injury of two as a result of destroying their plane in a Yemeni city and the reason was claimed to be a technical fault, without any details about their military ranks and names, claiming that they were in Yemen as part of the Arabic Conventions to exchange military experiences.
In the same time, Yemeni websites published that a Yemeni pilot called Abdul Aziz al-Shami had an operation and damaged a military freight plane he was piloting which was carrying 11 pilots from the Syrian regime, 8 of them were killed and 3 injured and Al-Shami was killed as well.
The site claimed that pilots were from the regime militia and came to Yemen to kill the Yemeni people according to agreement between Bashar al-Assad and former Yemeni president Ali Abdulla Saleh.
The Syrian regime kept the names of pilots secret, but some of them leaked like Major Ibrahim Ismael from Drikish, Captain Dibo Haj Kassem from Aljanodiyeh, Captain Pilot Samer al-Ahmed and Pilot Abdel Hamid Haloum from Banyas, besides Colonel Faisal al-Mohammed.
In regard to Shershal Academy in Algeria, the two Lieutenant-Colonel Anwar Saad (from Lattakia) and Ahmed Shawkat (from Hama) were killed during the attack on the Academy 20 days after their arrival to have a course, while other 16 Algerian officers were killed in the attack.
