Syrian refugee women in Turkish border city of Gaziantep have organized a sit-in on Saturday demanding the international community to take concrete steps that can protect Syrian people from deadly air strikes and daily massacres.

The sit-in was organized to condemn massacres committed by the Syrian regime against civilians of eastern suburbs of Damascus including key city of Douma.

At least 52 people had been killed in Douma in Saturday, 6 days since a massacre committed against 117 civilians and branded as war crime by UN officials.

Also, on Sunday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said 13 civilians, including 6 children and 5 women, have lost their lives in Hamouriya suburb as well as 8 others were killed in Saqba. More 9 victims, including 3 children, have been killed in Irbeen and nearby village of Kafr Batna, SNHR said.

A ctivist Rowaida Kana'an, one of the organizers mentioned that stand-in is a protest of those Syrian women against the international community that kept silent about the crimes committed by Bashar al-Assad.

“Women are demanding the international community to move quickly to stop the blood sheds and massacres committed by the Syrian regime”.
Kinaan confirmed to Zaman al-Wasl the need to work on finding a solution to the Syrian crisis and lifting the siege imposed on all Syrian areas including "Moadamieh and Alwaer.

Eastern Ghouta's deaths were denounced by global powers as well as rights groups, which lambasted the Assad regime's indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

Human Rights Watch urged the United Nations to impose an arms embargo on the Syrian government after Sunday's attacks, which the rights group said demonstrated the regime's "appalling disregard for civilians".

But Damascus has insisted it is waging war against "terrorism", with Foreign Minister Walid Muallem defending last week's attacks.

He said "many of the terrorists use civilians as human shields, so what is claimed about massacres in Douma or elsewhere is fabricated news".

Eastern Ghouta area is regularly targeted by regime shelling and bombardment and has been under a suffocating siege for nearly two years.

The deaths in Eastern Ghouta come two years after a
chemical weapons attack on the area killed hundreds of people and was largely blamed on the government.

Hanan Halima, activists, from Douma and one of participants, confirmed the independence of protesting women: "Our goal from the sit-in is to deliver the voice of people in Douma who had been subject to ongoing killing, from the chemical weapon massacre to the popular market’s massacre which killed 100 civilians, we aim to deliver our voice to Turkish people in a civilized way.”

Yasmin Binshi, a Syrian journalist explained that their protest was a direct message from Syrian women to the world to say that Syrian women are not terrorists, she wished they would support the Syrian issue.

In her talk to Zaman al-Wasl, Binshi mentioned that attacks by al-Assad regime with chemical weapon on Ghouta two years ago were a test to the international reaction about the massacres. She mentioned that although the chemical massacre has been still under investigation, the Syrian people are still subject to attacks with chemical weapons, explosive barrels, and various types of weapons all the time.

There was a re-play of the horrific scenes of massacres and death performed by many youth in the middle of the Square which drew the attention of Turkish passers-by, who have shown clear reactions there was also banners and pictures of the Syrian daily tragedy displayed during the protest.

From his side, Hafiz Karkout, a Syrian writer and scriptwriter who attended the sit-in explained that protest was an evidence that the Syrian revolution is civilized. “The Syrian people had suffered of chemical weapon and others, however, this suffering is the pain of salvation and freedom of unprecedented injustice that no people in the world had before been under” added.
