NDF militia in Yarmouk Camp: names and missions

(Translation by Yusra Ahmed)

In this episode of the series “Under Microscope” about militias of the National Defense Forces (NDF) in the Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees in Damascus, Zaman al-Wasl publishes a list of members of the National Defense in the camp, with information about their position, missions, phone numbers, and national number.

Zaman al-Wasl has investigated many documents to collect needed information of each, for example some of the documents contained the triple name of the member with the mother’s name, date of birth, and mobile number, while another contained the health status of members and whether he was injured or disabled.

The two documents revealed that National Defence militias has not fought in Yarmouk's front only, but they had missions in Eastern Ghouta suburbs and the eastern countryside of Damascus, Al Sein military airport, the biggest in the country.

According to the documents, there were 15 of the 83 members injured, and 4 were disabled.

There only was one female “Hanaa Ahmed Mahmoud” who does administrative tasks, while there were 5 members of leading roles: Hassan Ahmed al-Saidi (Sector Commander), Mohamed Mahmoud Hajeh, (order responsible), Iyad Ahmed Dabish (Information Officer), Marwan Abdul Rahman Ashmawy (Battalion commander), and Mohamed Mahmoud Saleh (Deputy battalion Commander), besides 9 figures had positions of commanders of battalion and group.

The official leaked documents showed that more than one members of the National defence forces were from same family such as: Ashmawy (4 members, 2 of them brothers) Hajeh (2 brothers), Bahlul (3 members), Abo Hadwan ( 2 brothers Sakka ( two), the Muezzin (two), Abboud (3 brothers), Khalil Mohammed (two), this indicates the "Familial aspect" of the National Defense militia in the Yarmouk camp.

At the end of the series, Zaman al-Wasl declares that by publishing official lists of the names of National Defense militia in Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees, is considered as a public call against those people to investigate and sue them in case they were involved in serious violations, including killings, sniping, and participating in enforcing a brutal siege on the camp for more than 700 says, killing 1200 persons, about 180 martyrs died of starvation, beside hardening the lives of thousands under siege because of water and electricity cut-off and serious deterioration in the level of health services, food and supplies.
