Assad troops and allied militia advance in southern Aleppo, take 7 villages

Syrian troops and their allies, backed by Russian airstrikes have taken ground on Thursday in southern rural Aleppo, activists and rebel commanders said after one-week of heavy bombardments.

Zaman Al Wasl reporter said Russia's devastating air strikes that began in the country on Sept. 30, have weakened rebels since most of their bases had been destroyed.

The Regime army and fighters from Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah militia took 7 villages in the southern countryside, reporter says.

In central provinces of Homs and Hama, Syrian regime and Russian warplanes carried out more than 50 raids on Thursday, according to local activists.

Rebels said 15 regime army soldiers were killed in the ongoing clashes in the northern countryside of Homs.

In its turn, the Army of Conquest or Fatah Army, an alliance of Islamist groups including Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham, has mobilized troops reach 24,ooo in Hama countryside  to repel Assad forces and allied militias.

Meanwhile, Russian Defense Ministry official, Igor Konashenkov, on Thursday denied U.S. allegations that the Russian military had used cluster bombs in populated areas in Syria, RIA news agency reported.

Almost 80 percent of Russia's declared targets in Syria have been in areas not held by Islamic State, a Reuters analysis of Russian Defence Ministry data shows, undermining Moscow's assertions that its aim is to defeat the group.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad had told him he was ready to talk to armed opposition groups if they are genuinely committed to dialogue and to combating Islamic State, Reuters reported.

Speaking a day after Assad made a surprise visit to Moscow for talks with Putin -- underlining Moscow's new role as a central player in Syria's conflict -- Putin said the two men had talked about the need for a political solution.

Putin also said that, at the root of the Syrian conflict was not just Islamist militancy but also internal tensions -- a recognition that at least some of the people who rebelled against Assad's rule had a legitimate grievance.
