New mass grave found in Deir Ezzor for 40 Sheitaat tribesmen killed by ISIS 2014

A new mass grave found Friday in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor that has contained 40 bodies for men from al-Sheitaat tribe who revolted against the Islamic State in July 2014.

The Syrian Justice Center for Human Rights said the one-year-old grave had included corpses of 40 people, mostly men, purportedly had been killed by ISIS.

In 2014, the al-Sheitaat tribe attempted a rebellion against ISIS rule in Deir Ezzor. The Islamic State crushed the revolt in three days, killing, beheading and crucifying members of the tribe. Around 900 people were estimated to have been killed in the bloodiest single atrocity committed by ISIS in Syria, according to the IBTimes.

The Justice Center said it had discovered two mass graves in al-Sheitaat villages on December 29, 2014, contained bodies of 100 people, 60 of them were between 13 to 17 year-old.

The monitoring said about 2000 tribesmen were killed by ISIS and buried in mass graves.
