(Translation by Yusra Ahmed)

Hasaka (Zaman Al Wasl)-  Thousands of people on Monday took into streets of Malikia town in the norrthern province of Hasaka protesting against practices and abuses of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).

The demonstaruion that was  faced by PYD militants, was led by the Kurdish National Council, an opposiiton group and unit in the Western-backed Syrian Nationl Coalition.

Omar Ismail, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Syria said: “thousands of people from Derek City (Malikia) in Ain-Deora gathered in the Street near Masoom Darshew mosque to condemn the practices of PYD and its military methods” he added that supporters and members of PYD gathered in the same place to prevent the demonstration from getting bigger, and assaulted the demonstrators.

Ismail added that PYD’s militants spread among demonstrators and seized a camera of Ark TV, besides taking away most of demonstrators’ mobile phones by force and even they tended to bite their hands to force them to leave mobiles then they broke them.

The Kurdish leader said that PYD’s militants arrested Mohammed Ali Abo Nado, a member of the Political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria and responsible for the local council of the Kurdish National Council in Malikia /Derek, while he was with the demonstrators on Monday. Moreover, the militants of Democratic Union party had detained Nado two days prior to demonstration for 3 hours and demanded him to issue a statement of responsibility for any problems could happen, but he refused saying: "We stressed to them that we reject all of these policies and will continue in a peaceful political demonstration to show your policies which only serve the Syrian regime”.

On the other hand, Asayish militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) which is accused of suppressing the demonstrations, said in a statement posted on its official website: "two demonstrations gathered in Derek city at 9:30 in Monday morning, one of them opposed teaching in Kurdish language and the second was in favor of teaching in the mother Language”. The statement only linked the demonstrations to imposing Kurdish curricula without mentioning any other reasons.

The statement explained that the first demonstration, which supported teaching in Kurdish language started in front of the Kurdish language institution, while the opposite one gathered at Sheikh Masoom Mosque, then the two demonstrations met near the Mosque, and verbal interaction and row took place, which force Asayish militia to intervene to stop the dispute and prevent aggravation of the situation and turn it into a brawl between demonstrators.

According to eye witnesses, PYD militants arrested youth of ages between 18 and 30 years to recruit them for fighting with the Party under a “de facto authority”.

Kurdish National Council’s parties decided in its latest meeting to call on their supporters to demonstrate against using the “de facto Authority” and using force by (PYD. The first demonstrations against PYD began about a week ago, in the towns of "Mabada" and "Kahtaniyah", then in the town "Jawadip" east of the city of Qamishli.

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the military part of PYD, said in a statement that its members had on 9/11 carried out an operation against elements of the Islamic State “ISIS”, because the later were preparing to carry out an attack against them, and the operation targeted ISIS’s sites from the opposite side of the village of Sabaa-Zlam located at only bath goes through Abdul-aziz mountain from north to south and vice versa.

Activist Malath Yousuf confirmed that violent clashes between elements of the Islamic State and elements of the Union Party in Abdul-Aziz mountain took place in North Arisha amid a bombardment of the international coalition aircraft.

The activist added that roads between Arisha, which already has difficult humanitarian situation, and Hasaka are closed because of fierce battles which stranded loads of residents in Hasaka and vice versa for almost 10 days, forcing most of them to take the road around Abdul-Aziz mountain from the side of Tal-Tamer and Ras al-Ain cities, and cross the mountain from the West, which takes almost 8 hours, in the end they needed to pass barriers of the PYD.

The activist added that Islamic State has empowered its positions in the North side by using cannons and heavy mechanisms, and targeted PYD’s locations in Abdul-Aziz mountain in South Hasaka city, in the same time it stopped the progress of the allied forces under the name “Democratic forces of Syria” which headed to al-Hol Eastern Hasaka by using explosives devices, almost 20 one last month, as well as mine causing dozens of casualties among attackers. The attack was backed by coalition aircraft and American helicopters "Apache".

The new alliance named “Democratic forces of Syria” (HSD) announced in October the launch of a military campaign to control areas of Arisha, Alhol, Shaddadi and "Markada in the southern countryside of Hasaka, with the support of the international coalition against ISIS. HSE was formed days after founding a coalition of five pro-PYD forces under the name of “Rebels Army” which was formed a day after U.S. sent 5 tonnes of arms to PYD.

About 13.5 million people in Syria are now in need of humanitarian assistance and some sort of protection –an increase of 1.2 million in just 10 months, the UN aid chief said.
