Tawfiq Dunia, a member of the Syrian National Coalition, who recently withdrew from it, has explained the reasons behind that decision on his face-book page.
First, he explained that the aims of coalition expansion was to achieve balance, where the number and proportion of members from the National Democratic component within the coalition increased by 25 members and became 37 out of 86 which make up almost a half, instead of 21 out of 61.
He said: “ the expansion opened a door to other expansion like adding 11 new Kurd members to the General Authority, but if that carried out in the same way, it might increase the load on the coalition and make it difficult to make decisions.”
Dunai added another reason behind his withdrawal from the coalition saying: “the coalition elected a political body to be at alert and keep updated and have urgent meetings in between the General Authority meetings, as it is hard to gather all the General Authority members when the coalition needs to make quick decisions, and of course, the political body accountable to General Authority.
But what happened that political body began to consider itself a substitute for the General Authority and ignored it. They started to meet and take decisions secretly and no one knows of these decisions and we started to hear about their meetings and outcomes from Zaman Al Wasl or other electronic newspapers.”
Dunia told an incident showing how discrete and closed the political body meetings are held, he said: “it happened that I was in Istanbul during one of the political body meetings, and I thought it would be worthy going there to talk to some friends about the situation, and when I arrived and had a chat with one of the body’s members, another member came and draw the person I was with inside the room and close the door.” Dunia considered that act extremely unacceptable, and concluded that if the Political Body’s meetings are not approachable even by members of General Authority, that means they considered themselves as an alternative to it.
"I saw there was no need to stay in such a coalition, and I would come to mention more profound facts that impact the coalition work and influence Syrian people and revolution" Dunia ended.
It worth mentioning that Dunia is a member of the advisory council of Syrian Christians for Peace organization.
