ISIS car bombs kill 22 people in northern Hasaka: monitor

(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 22 people killed and 100 wounded Thursday in three truck bombs carried out by ISIS in a Kurdish-controlled town in northern province of Hasaka, activists and monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 22 people have been killed in Tal Tamer town west of Hasaka.

The Observatory said one of the bombs exploded near a health center, and another near a vegetable market. It said there was "confirmed information" about casualties among the Kurdish internal security force known as the Asayish. Asayish officials could not immediately be reached for comment, Reuters reported.

The town in the northeastern province of Hasaka is controlled by the Kurdish YPG militia, which has been battling Islamic State with the support of U.S.-led air strikes.

Syrian state news agency SANA said the car bombs, which were loaded with large amounts of explosives, have caused massive material damage in the area.

The YPG has been the most effective partner on the ground in Syria for the U.S.-led alliance. In October, it became part of a new U.S.-backed alliance called the Democratic Forces of Syria.

Kurdish strongholds  have regularly been targeted by ISIS, which controls some territory in Hasaka province.

Since it began in 2011, Syria's conflict has fractured into a complex array of fronts between Kurds, rebels, regime and jihadists, and has killed more than 250,000 people.
