Amna and Amina bury disabled father after long journey of devotion

Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman AL Wasl)- Amna and Amina, the two Syrian girls from Qusayr in Homs, live now in Arsal, the Lebanese border town, who devoted their lives to help their blind and disabled father, have lost their father in Christmas day, even before receiving the fund they were promised of, by a donor to buy a healthy and medical bed and mattress to their father.

Death was faster than money transfer and the father passed away, while the money had been used for funeral ceremony.

Literally, the tent looked more spacious after taking away the mattress the father used to sleep on, but deep inside, the two girls felt it crushing them, especially when they received the money and were not able to bring happiness to their father in his last days of life, and all they were able to do, spending the money on his funeral.

The cost of dignified burial and funeral for Syrians in Lebanon is too expensive and unaffordable by many families.

The cost of the shroud for one deceased reaches to $18 for male, and $23 for female, while the cost for a grave reaches to almost $60 according to Sheikh Izz Eddin Hamoud, who helps in securing fund for sort of respectful funeral.

This amount of money looks huge compared to the aid Syrians received by the United Nations, which gives 65$ to a family of five, equal $13 per head monthly, That means the whole family’s monthly income would not cover the cost of a grave, according to Ahmed, a Syrian young man works in funeral service.
