Calls for Assad to step down before US strike

An initiative demands Assad to step down and forming a military council negotiates opposition

Zaman Alwasl obtained a copy of an initiative appealing officers from regime’s army who still believe in themselves as protectors and defenders for the “nation” not the “person” to demand Bashar al-Assad to step down to save Syria further destruction and disasters.

The source told Zaman Alwasl that the initiative will be put for discussion among opponents and the National Coalition will be consulted first about it before circulating it for signature around political and national figures, parties and gatherings inside and outside Syria.

The initiative was born yesterday, included formation of a temporary military council from regime’s army officers mentioned above for a maximum period of six months, during that period they will negotiate with the opposition and the Free Army to develop an integrated transition plan under international supervision and ended up with election, a new constitution and a national democratic regime for all Syrians.

The initiative warned that Syrian people might witness more suffering in the coming days, even harder and  more serious than that in the past 30 months.

Here is an Initiative for signing by national figures, parties and gatherings inside and outside Syria. 

Syrian people have been suffering for years, and this suffer could be worse in coming days, in order to increase hope, we call upon the officers of the Syrian Arab Army, who still believe that they are protectors and defenders of the “nation” not the “person”, thus their mission is to protect citizens and defend the country,  to cooperate to save Syria further destruction and horrors , we on our part also still distinct between the country, the person and the family, and between the sect and the regime, and we are ready to follow a genuine national partnership that does not overlook  justice .

We wish you demand Bashar Al-Assad and his regime to step down and form a temporary military council for a maximum period of six months and negotiate with the opposition and the Free Army to develop an integrated transition plan integrated international supervision, until elections, a new constitution and a national democratic regime for all Syrians is achieve.
