(Zaman Al Wasl)- A rehabilitation and physiotherapy centre in Reyhanli, a Turkish border city with Syria, is about to shut down due to lack of funds, leaving its Syrian patients wondering of their future medical and clinical conditions, or even how to afford for living.

More than 40 Syrians registered with “Emar” Centre for physiotherapy, do not know what would happen to them in future, after they were given notices to find another place within a week due to lack of support. It the third centre to close, after “banafsaj and Ishfaa centre” and limiting services in “Bashir Alsabirin” centre.

Anas al-Ahmed, a patient with back injury caused paralysis of his right leg, added to amputation of his left leg, explained to Zaman Al Wasl that the centre has been supported by the International Corporation of developing for 3 years, and the decision to close it was a hard shock to the resident patients and even the medical staff, as many of patients do not have any money and cannot afford for food and do not any place to go in Reyhanli.

Al-Ahmed did not hold the corporation of developing any responsibility, because he thinks that the decision has come as part of a plan to harden the Syrians’ lives wherever they are.

The patient mentioned that the corporation had provided lots of excellent services to patients, where almost 40-50 patients were treated monthly. The centre provided the high quality physiotherapy, accommodation, food and free medication, besides dressings and nappies.

Al-Ahmed explained that the centre’s administration had notified the medical staff, cleaners and cooks to look for another job, because the centre is going to shut down in at the end of this moth “January.”

The Syrian patient mentioned that no particular date was given to evacuate the centre due to negotiations between the centre’s administration and the corporation , but the administration informed the patients to be ready any time and prepare a place to go, otherwise, they would be taken to a shelter centre of wounded.

Al-ahmed confirmed that services in the centre are almost ceased, waiting for another supporter to cover the cost after the decision taken by the corporation of developing to stop support.

Our source told Zaman Al Wasl that he had decided to leave the center, but a 5-year-old boy has back injury came to him wondering: “if they close the centre, where would I go”, that made him stay and fight to keep to centre open and started a hash-tag to prevent closing Emar Centre in Rehanli.

Al-Ahmed confirmed that many children are residents in the centre, on of them a 9-year old girl with back injury and another 5 year old boy.

In the end, the patient highlighted that the disaster of closing the centre in not limited to those 40 resident patients, but there are almost 50 patients who come to out-patient clinic at monthly, and if it was closed, they would find no place for treatment and medication.
