(Zaman Al Wasl)- Activists reported on Tuesday fierce fighting between regime troops and rebels at the gates of Salma village in the coastal Latakia province, Bashar al-Assad's heartland.
Regime troops backed by their allied militias have pressed more advances the northeastern countryside of Latakia, taking control of Tartiyah village and two hilltops in Jabal al-Krad region, or Mount al-Akrad, and cutting the main supply route to Salma town that had been in control of rebels since mid 2012.
The village of Tartiyah is strategically situated to the east of the rebel stronghold of Salma, rebels' de facto capital in Latakia mountains.
According to al-Masdar News, pro-regime website, the Brigade 103, key unit in the Republican Guards, backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qardaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) have taken full control over the strategic village of Tartiyah after heavy clashes with Nusra Front and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
