Syrian Refugees: Om Yasin's story started with Kidney stones, ended with renal failure

Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Om Yasin, a Syrian refugee from Homs lives in Mafraq city in Jordan, suffers of renal failure and kidney stones, she suspects that a medical mistake caused her renal failure.

Mrs Faiza al-Zardah who came to Jordan few years ago, told Zaman Al Wasl that she was ill because of cold weather last year and had renal colic, she went to the Emirati hospital in Mafraq city, and was given volatarin injection to release her pain and then she discovered that she had renal failure.

Om Yasin detailed that she was transferred to Akila Hospital in Amman to get treated and have renal dialysis, but she suspected that the cause of renal failure resulted from medical mistake happened to her n the hospital.

She began to feel stress because of her suspicion, which made the hospital refer her to a Psychiatrist to see her condition, which annoyed her because she felt his questions were pointing that she was obsessed, as he asked her about the number of times she washed her hands, and how many times she washed the cloth when cleaning the floor.

Om yasin commented: “I told the doctor that I am Faiza Faeq, I am in a complete mental health condition, you have damaged my kidneys, and when I asked about the doctor who treated me, you claimed that he left the hospital, and you have not forwarded me another doctor to discuss my condition with him.”

She revealed that she felt angry because she needed the help of people to afford for renal dialysis two times a week, 40 Jordanian Dinar each, and to pay for medication and vitamins she needed.

Om Yasin mentioned that she was forced to leave her 3-year-old child to her neighbours to go for dialysis sessions in Amman.

In the end, she regretted that she had reached to that condition, as she felt that she might have been treated in better way if she had been in Syria, like what happened to her uncle in Syria, when he had a kidney stone removed easily without complications.
