300 people disappear in Monastery of St. George in al-Hosn town

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Activists in the Wadi al-Nasara area revealed that monastery of St. George controlled by National Defence forces (NDF) has been turned into a prison since 2014, in the same period when the Syrian regime and NDF controlled the city of Qala'at al-Hosn after evacuated it from its people.

Activist Khalid al-Hosni explained that regime forces and NDF had made agreement with people of the western countryside
after more than 2 years of siege, poverty, hunger and shelling, on condition to secure safety of civilians.

However, according to the activist, what happened was a real disaster as hundreds of people, women, children and youth sought shelter in the Monastery in Mishtayeh village, but the NDF led by Bishr Yazigi had turned it into a real detention center.

Al-Hosni added that militia of NDF had collected about 300 people within less than 48 hours and then they disappeared and no one knows anything about them till now.

The activist confirmed that he did not aim to damage the image of churches and the Monastery, but he wanted to draw attention to practices of criminals and how they spoil the image of religious symbols, he added that churches in Wadi al-Nasara had witnesses uncountable crimes on hands of Bishr Yazigi and his militias.

In an interview with OTV, Bishr Yazigi considered all people in al-Hosn as legal targets for him: “for me, a son of an armed person is armed, wife of an armed person who feed and cook for him is armed”, that warned activists and residents in the city to seek help and appeal for local and social bodies to intervene to protect families under siege.

Monastery of St. George is considered one of the most important ancient churches and Monastery in Syria, it is situated in al-Hosn, 58 km from Homs and 32 km from the coast.

The Monastery contains lots of historical valuables, the most important is “Omari Treaty” written by Khalid Bin al-Waleed, in which Khalifa Omar Bin al-Khatab regulates an agreement to guarantee rights of Christians in areas controlled by Muslims.First U.S. case of Zika virus contracted in Dallas County, according to health officials.
