Swedish Immigration suspects 10 Syrian asylum seekers, committing war crimes

Swedish Immigration refused to grant asylum to 10 Syrians seeking asylum on suspicion of participating and committing "war crimes" during the Syrian regime’s war against its people.

A report on the Swedish newspaper " Dagens Nyheter” which presented a report for Lennart Eriksson’s, an activities expert in the immigration services, who said “many of the asylum seekers say they have fled the regime’s army, so we draw attention to the staff responsible for the processing of asylum applications, to the need to ask this group of asylum seekers the right questions during the process of considering their applications” and he added that  when there is sufficient evidence that the asylum seeker was involved in war crimes, he loses the right to obtain refugee status , and the right to protection.

Among the 14,500 Syrian refugees arrived in Sweden since the start of the conflict in their country, only 20 people were suspected of committing crimes, and only 10 of them were rejected as asylum seekers, but still they do not face a risk of deportation, as they will granted temporary leave to remain and their cases would be forwarded the police for further investigation, Eriksson added.

“ Pia Tephselios", director of police in fighting against crime section, stated that there are currently 26 cases are being investigated, two of them are related to Syrian people.

Marais to Lindh Thompson, from prosecution and investigation of international issues said: “it is not possible for the police now to conduct investigations for crimes committed in Syria, because of the danger this poses on the Swedish police who are going to conduct those investigations”

It is worth mentioning that two days ago, Sweden decided to grant asylum and permanent residency to all Syrians who applied for asylum on its territory, as well as allowing family reunion for Syrians on its territory under temporary residence. In this, Sweden is the first EU country to offer permanent residency to refugees from Syria.

The decision means that the roughly 8,000 Syrians who have temporary residency in Sweden will now be able to stay in the country permanently. They will also have the right to bring their families to Sweden.
