(Zaman Al Wasl) The rapid advances of Syrian regime forces and allied militias in northern Aleppo province began early February, have encouraged Jaysh al-Thuwar, key unit of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, to spread in the rebel-held areas.

Sources revealed an agreement between rebel formations and Jaysh al-Thuwar to allow the later entering villages of the northern countryside of Aleppo, in order to protect them by the US-led alliance air strikes, and exclude it from the Russian air raids because they do not target areas under control of the Syrian Democratic Forces “SDF.

Zaman Al Wasl reporter mentioned that fighting formations found themselves surrounded from three sides after cutting the road between Aleppo city and North Countryside by the regime and supporting militias of Hezbollah, and controlling villages of Dwer Zaytoon, Maarast Khan, Mayer and Rityan.

Large number of rebels’ groups in Northern Countryside were forced to secretly join Jaysh al-Thuwar in order to protect their villages and towns from the Syrian regime’s forces from one side, and the Islamic State from the other, a commander of the Free Syrian explained to Zaman Al Wasl.

On the other hand, many rebels refused to be part of Syrian Democratic Forces, because according to them, they find those forces similar to Syrian regime’s forces. They preferred to work in small fighting groups in villages and towns adjacent to Azaz.

Omar Mariamini one of rebels who refused to join Syrian Democratic Forces and left its military formation, headed toward Azaz where he has lived, and formed a small fighting groups with other rebels who had the same attitude toward SDF.

Mariamini confirmed that lots of people of Northern countryside have done what he did because in his opinion, a rebel should not leave his principles.

“I expect in future after defeating the Islamic State, a forced reconciliation with the regime would take place, like what is happening these days, as rebels had reconciled with the Kurdish militias within Jaysh al-Thuwar, I prefer dying than shaking hands with who killed my people”, Mariamini said.

The SDF was formed in mid October as an alliance between the powerful Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and rebel groups including Arab and Assyrian militias to fight Islamic State. But few weeks later SDF had engaged in fighting with moderate rebels groups with expectation of coordination with Syrian regime forces and Russia.

Since it began in 2011, Syria's war has fractured into a complex array of fronts between Kurds, rebels, regime and jihadists, and has killed more than 260,000 people.
