(Zaman Al Wasl)- Regime forces in the city of Deir Ezzor have started moving some families of police forces and officers on planes to Damascus and the coastal region while it prevented other people from leaving areas under its control.
An activist explained that numbers are still small and limited to families of officers and members who were killed or injured during the last battle with the Islamic State as military helicopters move them to Qamishli then they are transferred via ordinary flights to Damascus or Latakia, at cost reaches to half a million Syrian pounds paid to Major-General Mohammed Khadour, the commander of military and security operation in the Eastern region.
Facebook page of Free Deir Azzor radio reported that the Syrian regime had pushed police officers to fight against the Islamic State in the city where they positioned in points in Sinaa neighborhood an Mariyah village, and 50 police officers fight at Baghila front after being controlled by the Islamic State, and too many soldiers were killed.
According to the page's manager, the regime forces prevented people in areas under its control from leaving the area , while lots of police officers had run away from the service and left the city, because they feared of forcing them to fight on fronts in city outskirt, in the same time, holidays and permissions were not allowed, to reduce possibility of defection.
Almost 200 thousand civilians live Dier Ezzor, most of them under siege, as regime controlled neighborhoods of Joora, Qosoor, Harabish, while the rest live in areas controlled by the Islamic State and they are subject to frequent air strikes by the US-led alliance, Russia and the regime.
The first offensive on Deir Ezzor by the Islamic state took place in (April–July 2014) when it launched attacks against all other opposition forces as part of the Inter-rebel conflict.
After more than three months of heavy fighting, ISIS totally defeated the rebels and captured almost the whole province, except a part of the city center, the military airport and a few of the surrounding towns, which remained under control of the Syrian regime.
On December 3, 2014, the Islamic State launched another attack on Deir Ezzor, that time was against the regime, as it attacked military airbase and managed to capture al-Masemekeh Building after a suicide bomber detonated a car near it. In following clashes ISIS advanced further and captured Mariyah and part of al-Jafra village, next day the regime army launched a counterattack and recaptured parts of al-Mariyah village and regained control of the perimeter of the Deir Ezzor airbase.
On 6 December, ISIS took control of the missiles battalion to northeast of the airport. At the same time, it manage to bomb bomb the main gate of the air base and managed to advance into it but this attack was stopped due to heavy shelling and bombardment by the regime forces.
