(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian rebels on Saturday have killed at least 24 regime forces and allied militants in the northwestern province of Latakia, local activists said.
Rebels launched surprise attacks on the army posts near Kansba village in Jabal al-Akrad, killing 16 soldiers, while 8 more soldiers were killed in an ambush early morning in Jabal al-Turkman, according to activists.
The attack came almost a month since regime army took strategic towns of Salama and Rabiaa, and the hilltops surrounding the towns from rebels.
Opposition forces in Latakia province -- including the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front -- are largely based in the northern and northeastern areas of Jabal Akrad and Jabal Turkman.
The conflict in Syria erupted in March 2011 with anti-regime protests, which spiralled into a full-fledged war that has left more than 400,000 people dead and forced 13 millions from their homes
