Damascus: despite lack of funds Bambino voluntary centre to keep support for traumatic kids

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Bambino centre for emotionally rehabilitate children in Western Ghouta of Damascus, supports and works to bring happiness to children, despite lack of support and fund in addition to high cost of almost everything.

Many children in western countryside of Damascus suffer from status of continuous fear and psychological effects of ongoing air raids, bombing and siege.

These children undoubtedly need effort to rehabilitate them from the effects of the war, that encouraged activistس to establish a centre to help in rehabilitating them.

The centre هis situated in a basement, hosts about 50 children whom receive support to help them in getting over the fear and psychological stress, as well encouraging their talents like drawing, singing, playing music, acting. Most importantly, letting them to tell what goes in their mind and what they think and feel, according to the Diaa Assoud, responsible and founder of the centre.

Assoud told Zaman Al Wasl that many volunteers specialist in working an dealing with children and volunteers from Bambino band participate in rehabilitating and emotionally supporting children between 5-12 years old, under supervision of a psychiatrist.

"The volunteer psychiatrist oversees the way of dealing with kids and their reactions and the way of dealing with each case, as there are many kids lost their families, while others lost parts of their bodies, that put some rules for planning activities as they must not hurt anyone of the children", Assoud mentioned and added that volunteers are very sensible in choosing their words and the way of talking with kids to avoid annoying them.

“Bambino rehabilitation centre aims to spread its experience and to have more outdoor activities like swimming and football, because of that there is a plan to increase the number of staff, and providing teaching aid, stories, performing plays, but the main obstacle is lack of support” the responsible for the centre mentioned.

Assoud mentioned that the centre had received support by an agency for 6 months to cover the rent, equipment, transportation cost and meals, but now the centre works without support within available sources.

Diaa Assoud mentioned that children usually show signs of stress and fear of bombing and explosive barrels despite they are in a protected basement, moreover, barrels are frequently mentioned in children's talks and drawings, which indicate the amount of fear and trauma they caused to children.

The founder of the centre mentioned that many problems face the centre especially lack and poor support and fund, high cost of all requirements like rent, transportation, product prices and the security and safety conditions, as bombing sometimes causes closing the centre and families fear of sending their children.
