HOMS (Zaman Al Wasl)- The UN-brokered 'cessation of hostilities' ceasefire deal has revived fishing in both lakes of Rastan and Harbanafsah and in water streams in Holeh, after 4 years of complete halt in the northern countryside of Homs.
Zaman Al Wasl correspondent in Holeh reported that many of Homs’ residents have started fishing these days, especially after releasing water from Taldo Dam to Rastan Dam via water streams.
Ghassan Ibrahim, one of the most famous fishermen in Taldahab village said to Zaman Al wasl that he has been working in fishing for 9 years, but he was forced to stop practicing his favourite work after the siege of the countryside of Homs, and controlling the area around Taldo Dam by the Syrian regime and its militias, which is rich in many kinds of freshwater fish.

Zaman Al Wasl correspondent in Holeh reported that many of Homs’ residents have started fishing these days, especially after releasing water from Taldo Dam to Rastan Dam via water streams.
Ghassan Ibrahim, one of the most famous fishermen in Taldahab village said to Zaman Al wasl that he has been working in fishing for 9 years, but he was forced to stop practicing his favourite work after the siege of the countryside of Homs, and controlling the area around Taldo Dam by the Syrian regime and its militias, which is rich in many kinds of freshwater fish.
He added that ceasing fire between the regime and rebels has encouraged people to go to water streams of Taldo's and Rastan's dams to practice fishing, as fishes have become more and fishing has improved after releasing part of water collected in Taldo Dam.
The fisherman mentioned that he fishes around 10-20 kg of fish daily from Harbanafsah lake and water stream of Taldahab.

Ibrahim mentioned that fishing has provided some source of income for some people especially youth in North countryside of Homs, as the price of one kilogram of fish ranges between 400 and 800 Syrian pound according to fish's kind, especially with recent extremely difficult economical circumstances as no job opportunities are available because of war.
Abo Mohammed Soleiman revealed to Zaman Al Wasl that he catches few fishes every day, which provides him and his family with source of protein, compensating of lack of red meat, which is too expensive, as the price for one kilogram of meat reaches to 2800 Syrian pound.
He confirms that most people in the North countryside of Homs are deprived of fish and other sources of protein which is essential for growing for more than four years.
Taldo Dam, 2 kilometre to the south of Holeh town is considered the fourth most important dams in Homs. It was established 50 years ago, its capacity reaches to 16 million cubic metres, water comes from springs and streams of Alhelo Mountain and Daher Qusayr, as well as heavy rain at towns of Rabah, Kafram Alqabo. The dam is connected to Rastan lake via a water stream of 15 kilometres, where many kinds of fish live like nasiri and carp and others.
Homs, the capital of Syrian revolution, was one of the first cities to join th revolution, many of neighbourhoods in Homs, and north countryside of the city suffered of severe siege for more than four years.

On Saturday February 2016, the cessation of hostilities agreement aimed at ending five years of bloodshed in Syria started with unanimously endorsement by the Security Council.
The 15-member Council endorsed the deal announced in the Joint Statement by the United States and the Russian. The resolution demanded that all parties to the agreement live up to its terms, and urged all Member States to use their influence to ensure that parties to the conflict fulfil their commitments and create the conditions for a durable and lasting ceasefire.
As confirmed by the Joint Statement, the cessation of hostilities would not apply to terrorist organizations such as Nusrah Front and Islamic State “ISIS.”
