(Zaman Al Wasl) - The U.N Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, met with a delegation of Cairo Platform on Thursday in Geneva after meeting with the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) the day before.

Jihad Makdissi, a member of Cairo Platform told Zaman Al Wasl: “we have in last round of negotiation given our vision for a political solution in Syria through a projected political road map adopted by Cairo conference or the National charter which includes all details related to implementing Geneva agreement.”

“In today’s round, we are going to discuss with De Mistura more detailed matters about the implementation of the political solution according to Cairo conference," he added.

The final statement of Cairo conference held in June 2015 declared that military solution is impossible in Syria, and it is difficult for recent regime to stay in ruling the country, the statement mentioned the need for moving all the executive and legislative powers to a Transitional Ruling Body and form a transitional government, Supreme Justice council and National Transitional Military Council.

Makdissi expressed his uncomfortable feeling toward the negative atmosphere in Geneva saying: “Syrian crisis is too complicated and players are too many besides the differences among Syrian people, all that lead to problems and obstacles for solution, I look at the positive aspect which appears in attending the talks without withdrawals, besides the notable seriousness especially by delegations of Cairo and Moscow conferences, there are heavy activities and hope they would lead to positive results, which depends on De Mistura, and we are here to have our impact.”

Makdissi considered the election in Syria is a routine practice and they cannot affect what is happening in Geneva, as the Security Council’s decision number 2254 indicates the need for forming a transitional body to implement constitutional adjustments then Parliament and Presidential election within 18 months.

Makdissi added: “regardless of what is happening in Syria which is a routine practice, it is not going to affect the political process, we in Geneva are working to achieve constitutional adjustments and a political plan to reform the structure of Syria therefore, what is happening in Damascus is the regime’s matter and we have nothing to do with, as there would be new election if we were successful in achieving the political plan we are working on here in Geneva according to the decision 2254 of the Security Council.

After collapsing in February, the previous round of the U.N.-brokered talks were held two weeks ago after the ceasefire between the regime and rebels that began across parts of Syria on February 27th.

Delegation of the Syrian regime negotiation is arriving in Friday, because the the first day of third round of talks had coincided with election for Parliament in Syria, however it is expected that was an attempt of the regime to delay negotiations and fail them.

Both the regime and the opposition agreed in last round of talks to launch a new setting of talks under the pressure of the international community to find a solution to a five-year war that has killed more than 270,000 people.

Cairo conference held in June 2015, aimed to formulate a proposal for a practical implementation of the Geneva statement and a clear vision for the future of Syria according to Geneva conference statement in 2012.

Makdissi was the Foreign Ministry spokesman of the Syrian government from 1998 to 2012.

In Late January 2013, it was circulated that Makdissi had defected from the Syrian regime. Two weeks later, he issued a statement declaring that he had resigned because of Syria's "violence and polarization that left no place for moderation and diplomacy" and apologized to Syrian families if they had thought that he had not understood their suffering while in his diplomatic position.
