(EQTSAD)- Number of enthusiastic youth in southern Jasim town founded a center to support children emotionally and psychologically after the trauma they have been living in for more than 5 years.
Bilal Dnaifat, the director of Basmat Amal, or Smile of Hope, said the tragic outcoms of the 5-year-old war had pushed many specialized enthusiastic youth in Jasim town in Daraa countryside to do something to help in getting children out of the situation they are in and help them to get over the stressful situations."
Millions of Syrian children were subject to violence in different way by the regime’s cruel war against its people, especially Daraa, the cradle of the revolution that broken out after torturing children by the regime’s intelligence.
Dnaifat explained that all the fund is donations from the members of the centre, however, the centre needs more support to help children in better way.
The centre witnessed good attendance from people because they felt improvement in their children's acts and behaviors, according to Dnaifat.
Malik al-Saho, secretary of the centre explained: “the centre provides emotional and psychological support to whom were affected by the war more than others, mentioning that activities in the centre work on sorting children according to their conditions, where children who were severely affected are treated and supported by psychological specialists.
Other support is given to children with special needs, besides working on improving talents by drawing, playing music, acting and dancing."
Al-Saho detailed that there are 20 volunteers in the centre, specialized in education, psychological and social science, kindergartens, art, acting and specialist and experts on of psychological and social support.
The center provides intensive treatments programs for children like treatment with acting, methods of survival, areas of safe playing and program of building hopes, according to the secretary.
Al-Saho confirmed that almost 350 children are registered in the centre aged between 6 and 14 years old, and the number is increasing, which need big support to provide the materials and the fund. He called local and Arabic organizations and charitable people to support activities of the centre which will reflect on children emotional stability and psychological health.
Yusuf Sawaya, director of activities said: “children in the centre practice many activities, seem to be only recreational, but they aim to reach to inside the children to help them in improving their mood and behavior with others, then it work on help children to integrate with the community especially after multiple an frequent displacement and loses they have gone through, and stress of war.”
Sawaya mentioned that experts in the centre work on improving concentration and intelligence in children, besides activities of cooperation and team working, problem solving, as well as discovering talented children and improving their skills.
Kais, 13, says that he is happy in the centre because he finds lots of useful games and he spends good time with his friends. He mentioned that the staff do lots of useful activities and they trat children with love and tenderness and children feel like they are in their homes.
Osama, 10, says that he found beautiful place to practice his hoppy of drawing and teacher help him to improve his skills, besides enjoying his time with his new friends.
Aya Firas al-Jbawi says that she feels secure when she plays with her friends, as she sees all children happy in the centre where it is full of nice toys and games, besides sport and acting, and teacher treat children like they are their own kids.
The more than 5-year war in Syria has resulted in more than 250 thousand death, millions of displaces and refugees, which become the worse humanitarian crisis since the World War II.
