(Zaman Al Wasl)- About 3000 Syrian migrants who trapped in Greek island Lesbos have clashed with police on Wednesday over repeated assaults in Moria camp, migrant told Zaman al-Wasl via phone call.
Tens of the angry crowd were injured as the Greek police fired tear gas and used violence to disperse protesters.
A Syrian refugee said: “we have been detained here for 40 days, we are not told where they are going to deport us, they prevented us from passing through."
The refugee confirmed: “the police assaulted some of the unaccompanied children who are detained in minors’ prison because they protested after refusing their application for asylum at the Greek authorities.
As a result of beating children, according to the eye witness, refugees gathered around the minors’ prison then gathering became riots and some refugees started throwing stones, which led the police to shot tear gas to separated demonstrators.
Moria camp has become a detention centre for refugees who arrive Greece via sea from Turkey aiming to reach to Europe, after executing the European Union-Turkey agreement in March 20 this year, which states that most refugees arriving on the Greek islands are sent to the detention centre on Moria, where they can apply for asylum in Greece.
The unsuccessful ones are deported to Turkey on condition that European Union would accept a refugee legally applied to asylum.
