(Zaman Al Wasl)- The education directorate in rebel-held Idlib province has received fund from Chemonics organization to cover some expenses in educational sector in the province, head of the directorate tolld Zaman al-Wasl.
Jamal Shahoud said the $600,000 that had been received last month have provided more than 4000 job opportunities in the educational sector.
Shahoud told Zaman al-Wasl the financial aid by Chemonics will increase to $800,000 dollars a month after expanding the grant. There are promises of two organizations working in education field to offer $2 million a month to aid the educational process in the province next school year.
The educational staff who benefited from Chemonics grant have been appointed according to an application supervised by the Free Idlib Education Directorate following verification of degrees and educational experience, Shahoud confirmed.
He added the grant covered directly more than 200 schools in the province and contributed to 147 more.
Shahoud said the directorate intends to stop teachers’ connection with Assad regime by banning them from going to Hama city to get their salaries. The directorate will cover their financial needs through the supporting organizations.
Shahoud showed his resentment to the work of some organization in education sector inside of Syria saying the directorate intends to meet with these organization rejecting these organizations control of the curriculum for the schools they are supporting.
He stressed the necessity of limiting organizations’ missions to financial aid and document it and meanwhile the Education Directorate supervises teachers’ placement and providing education curriculum for these school. Organizations which do not commit to these might be expelled.
An official in education ministry in the Interim Government had talked of the need for 2 million dollars a month to cover the educational needs inside of Syria in case the teacher’s salary is 50 Dollars point out there are more than 800000 students receiving their education in opposition-held areas.
Semi-official data released by opposition institutions revealed than more than 3000 schools were damaged by air raids by regime forces and its allies.
The data was accompanied by press statement of Education Minister in regime government saying more than 2000 schools out of 22000 have been destroyed or damaged while more than 800 schools turned into shelters for displaced families. He pointed out that students who dropped off schools in regime-controlled areas does not exceed 6%.
