(Eqtsad)- the trade chamber of Damascus city has decided to unite with the community to face the unprecedented deterioration on the exchange rate of the Syrian pound against the U.S Dollar, calling traders to reduce prices as much as possible especially before the holy month of Ramadan.
Damascus trade chamber has launched a campaign “we are all consumers” before the holy month of Ramadan, and called all traders to reduce prices and trying to sell at wholesale prices, beside issuing offers for essential goods at least.
The chamber explained that the aim of the campaign is to confirm the unity of the community members whatever the social class and the profession, calling traders to work on achieving goals of the campaign and to succeed it to reduce burdens on people.
In the statement the trade chamber issued, it expressed her trust in cooperation of the traders to achieve success of the campaign, to be proof for unity and cooperation in community and to show the level of the nationalism within the Syrian community.
Facebook pages loyal to the Syrian regime talked about noticeable drop in prices went alongside with drop in the exchange rate of the U.S Dollar against the Syrian pound, but still, prices are higher than the ability of people to afford.
The World Bank has issued a report 2 months ago titled: “Economic Observatory for the Middle East and North Africa – Spring 2016”, in which it mentioned that that the Central bank of Syrian has experience sharp decline in cash reserves, which quickly reflected on the dollar on the black market, where the exchange rate of Syrian pound had declined to an unprecedented levels and reached nearly 600 SYP to the U.S Dollar.
The report mentioned that Syria’s growth is expected to continue to contract in 2016 by 8 %, while the medium-term macroeconomic prospects hinge on containing the war and finding a political resolution to the conflict, and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure and social capital.
