(Zaman Al Wasl)- An ex-detainee in Saydnaya Prison recounts his suffering during his journey to receive treatment while being detained in the prison. The suffering started with the drive along with other detained patients in a vehicle with no seats from Sednaya to Barzeh where the hospital is located.
The detainee who spoke on condition of anonymity told Zaman al-Wasl that vehicle driver drove very badly intentionally to harm the detainees who were rolling inside the car.
The patients’ car is accompanied by other two military police cars. These are usually filled with personal to accompany the sick detainees.
The detainee added, “when you arrive at the hospital, the patients are escorted to the military police station subordinate to the hospital and from there, they are transferred depending on the doctors availability and sufficiency of personnel to escort them. For each detainee, there are 5 personnel to watch him even though the detainee is handcuffed and blindfolded. An armed man walks ahead of the detainees to lead the road in front and another armed man on the right of the patient, and another on the left, the back in addition to the head of the group who is usually ranked first assistant.”
The patient is escorted inside the hospital in this manner. Patients are banned from meeting doctors alone. İf the detainee is accepted in the hospital, the administration allocates a special room for each detainee. Following the patient’s admittance, the military police patrol’s head enters as well and sits the patient down on the bed and starts wrapping his head with gauze so that the detainee is unable to see and looks like he has underwent cranial or eye surgery.
The detainee continued, “the journey of torture does not stop there, the personnel at the hospital bring a long chain with locks. They attach the chain to the detainee’s wrist and then wrap it around the metal of the bed stand before locking it once, and then they wrap the lose end around the sick detainee’s leg regardless of the patients’ illness or his health situation, and despite the continued presence of two guards in the room to watch him.”
He remained in this situation for 5 days, he said, adding that if the patient’s situation does not require consistent care from tests, x-rays and check-ups he is sent to a cell in the military police station attached to the hospital.
Our speaker revealed instances of horrific torture lived by detained patients, where in one such instance, as he said the nurse brought a rubber tube like the tourniquet used to withdraw blood and tied the gentile organs of the patient. The patient remained like this until he started to hold his urine, and after the end of the punishment the patient started to pee blood. Following the patient’s return to Saydnaya prison his kidneys failed completely and suffered from failure in the activity of kidney and testicles.
