(Zaman Al Wasl)- In the light of the increasing loss in Syrian regime military force following 5 years of outbreak of the Syrian revolution, the Assad regime restored to implementing what is called a settlement on the detainees in Adra Prison, central prison in Damascus.
Assad regime started recruiting hundreds of political detainees who are referred to terrorism courts and put them forth to fight against Islamic State in Raqqa battle.
Well-informed sources from the prison told Zaman al-Wasl, committee of National Conciliation made intensive visits during the last week to the dorms of the prison and negotiated with the detainees.
The committees proposed releasing the detainees if they are to join the reserve army of the regime force. Later on, groups of regime military police entered the prison and informed the detainees about the reserve service and took their fingerprints.
Zaman al-Wasl knew that the regime under the settlement plan released 250 prisoners from drug section last week, 1250 unconvict and arbitrarily arrested in the framework of the terrorist courts established post-revolution to arrest peaceful protesters and opposition.
The sources confirmed the regime send the detainees to fight against Isis east of Aleppo and west of Raqqa. The regime will continue to recruit batches of 500 and transport them to battle.
-Courts’ corruption-
The Justice Palace in Damascus witnessed in the last few months overlooking of most crimes and activation of the work of terrorism court to make illegal money. Recently, there has been an increase in the corruption of judges and lawyers working in these courts especially in the cases of prisoners of consciousness. They blackmail families of detainees to make money promising families to release their sons.
Abu Mohamed said, “I contacted many lawyers in Damascus to prove my son innocent from the charge of terrorism attached to him by Region Branch in Damascus in 2013 based on a report filed by the Baath party branch in Damascus University. He was arrested from Economy Faculty while taking an exam.”
“Most of the lawyers asked me for a lot of money that I do not have in exchange for his release through the third investigation judge and sometimes the fifth and the sixth. When I secured the money they wanted and it is 4 million SP, I paid it to the lawyer to release my son to be shocked that he was released in a settlement and recruited in regime forces’ ranks. He was assigned to Deir ez-Zor to fight Isis,” he added.
Abu Mohamed stressed that his son was not convicted during his detention. The lawyers were warning him of issuing a capital punishment verdict if he did not pay the money to the judge to prove him innocent of the terrorism charge before issue of verdict. His son is like thousands of detainees who were arrested arbitrarily and have not been trialed.
The Syrian regime detains more than 30000 young men inside Adra prison on charges of terrorism. Many of them could not communicate with their families because they are from rebel areas and fear arrest under terrorism charges if they are to visit their sons. The Center for Documenting Violations in Syria said the number of the documented detainees in name is more than 43000 detainees.
Assad regime has managed to get away with all the calls from international organizations to release prisoners of conscious. The regime ignored the good intentions’ initiative demanded by the High Committee for Negotiations to make the Geneva talks successful by releasing the prisoners. No one expected that later on the regime will recruit the detainees to fight against Isis and perhaps fight rebels to be the fuel to make the regime last longer following the extreme shortage in its ranks.
It should be noted the regime forces’ checkpoints placed on roads in Damascus and Aleppo as well as the military police patrols renewed during the past few days the arrest campaign of whoever is under 40 to get recruited in the reserve army.
