(Eqtsad)- Prices in the first day of Ramadan were shockingly high to Syrian people live in the Turkish city of Gaziantep.
The price of a medium-sized piece of Marook reached to TYR 6 (almost $2) while one kilogram of date reached to TYR 8 ($2.7) and the tamarind TYR 11 ($ 3.8) per one kilogram.
Sobhi al-Ahmed, a shop keeper reported to Eqtsad that prices this year has witnessed rise of almost 20% to 25% from Ramadan last year, however, this year there are more variation of goods and types of food.
Al-Ahmed explained that closing crossing points was the main reason behind high prices especially for goods brought from Syria and not available in the Turkish market.
Prices of vegetables and fruit have increased as well. Prices of tomatoes and water melon reported about 30% increase compared to prices days before.
Mrs Soad expressed her surprise from the rise in prices of goods which are already too expensive. “it seems that Turkish traders are not less greedy than Syrians.”
Prices of white meat like poultry kept the same at TYR 6, while red meat witnessed slight increase in prices, roughly TYR 3 per a kilogram which reached to TYR 45.
