(Zaman Al Wasl)- People in the southern countryside of Hasaka still suffer from hard living conditions even after controlling the area by the U.S.-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), even the situation has become worse than before when they were under the control of the Islamic State.
People are under continuous threat of being accused of loyalty to the Islamic State in order to blackmail families to recruit their sons with PYD to fight the Islamic State.
The living conditions and lack of food, no electricity or drinking water and other products have not improved even the Holy month of Rmadan.
Activist Ahmed al-Ali reported to Zaman Al Wasl that people in the southern countryside of Hasaka fear of even communicating over the smart phones applications, especially after several cases of raids and arrests in the neighbourhood of al-Khashof in the city of Shadadi under claims of searching for Islamic State’s members.
The activist added that SDF compliment families of young men who joined the forces by providing them bread and other essential food and materials, which encouraged dozens of youth to join in order to help their families to receive more support.
Al-Ali explained that SDF had arrest young men on barriers to recruit them for fighting against ISIS, which forced young men to keep themselves imprisoned inside their homes.
At the medical and health level, all vaccination campaigns have stopped, as all the health centres were closed and turned into military bases for PYD, including Shadadi hospital after looting all its equipment, that forced people to go to Hasaka town centre for treatment.
Unemployment prevailed among men, as most people used to work in petrol refinery manufacturing, but all of them have stopped. Or work in agriculture, and that have stopped as well because of lack of water and electricity, which is needed to draw water from wells.
The high cost of living with low income in the area, forced people to walk for long distance to leave areas under SDF control to the Islamic State- controlled area, or abroad with the help of traffickers.
Anew visitor to the area is foot and mouth disease that affect cattle of sheep and with lack of treatment, led to slump in their prices. Adding to that high prices of fodder which led to selling sheep at low prices.
SDF have regained control on the city of Shadadi and town of Arisha after a ground battle named “Khabour Anger” against the Islamic state with the help of air strikes of the US-led alliance.
