Oponion: Palestinians in the Diaspora over Syria's war

The majority of Palestinians in Syria live in 13 refugees camps, besides other clusters outside camps in Damascus like al-Tadamon, Kaboun,  Rokn al-Din, Kafr Sooseh, al- Hajar al-aswad, Yalda, al-Moadamiyeh, Jdaydet Artooz

Palestinians who live in gatherings outside camps have become closer to Syrians than Palestinians in camps because they are surrounded with Syrians, even there is more frequent mutual marriage between the two communities. That has effect on the quick involvement of Palestinians in Syrian revolution.

After the break out of Syrian Revolution in Dara’a and the speed acceleration and horizontal expansion to other Syrian cities, Palestinian gatherings outside camps were affected dramatically. They found themselves in the middle of events and what has been happening.

Palestinians in Douma were the first to get affected as it was one of the first areas to join the revolution, besides, Palestinians comprise around a quarter of Douma’s population.

Around 85 Palestinians were killed in Douma, some of them activists, para-medics, or members in the Fee Syrian Army. Whole families were killed when the Syrian Army invaded Douma in June 2012, such “Abo Rabo”, “Abdul wahhab”  and “Khalifa

Al-Hajar  al-Aswad,  near Yarmouk camp, where the majority of its population either Palestinian refugees or Syrians displaced from occupied Golan heights, was one of the first to follow Syrian revolution.

Around 60 Palestinians were killed in al-Hajar al-Aswad, 15 of them were field executed when regime's forces entered the area in September 2012.

Al-tadamon has the same fate as others, and Palestinian people suffered the same, where more than 40 one were killed.

Al-Kaboun neighborhood, situated to the north of Damascus, which is surrounded with many security and sensitive bases, was punished violently, where most people either were arrested or displaced or killed. Around 20 Palestinians were killed in al-Kaboun.

The same story is repeated in other cities and areas, where many Palestinians were killed in Dara’a, Homs, Hama and Aleppo.

In the latest mass killing by chemical weapon in al-Ghouta, 27 Palestinians were killed, 19 deaths in Jobar and 8 deaths in al-Moadamiyeh.

Palestinian have been killed outside Syria as well with related reasons to the Syrian war; the latest was the decision of Egyptian Authorities to deport Palestinians to Ecuador, beside arresting groups of many of them including even pregnant women and children.  Omar Dallol was the latest Palestinian who killed by Egyptian security force.

From these numbers and stories, it is clear the closeness and solidarity between Palestinians and Syrians, and give a proof that they feel toward Syria as if it is their home land.
