(Zaman Al Wasl)- Kurdish Women’s Protection Units YPJ militia arrested an Arab woman from Alajat village near Manbij in Aleppo eastern countryside. The incident revealed the United States claims that an Arab alliance is fighting the battle against ISIS there.
The brother of the woman told Zaman al-Wasl in a phone call that “Kurdish fighters from YPJ militia lured his sister Fatima al-Haj Mohamed (25) on July 1 to Um al-Qura mosque which YPJ takes as headquarter. They kidnapped Fatima there.”
He added that the leaderships of militia subordinate to PYD told them later on that Fatima got recruited in YPJ.
YPJ recruited tens of Kurdish women and less number of Arab women after arresting them from houses and schools with the help of so called Revolutionary Youth in the PKK literatures. PKK which PYD is derived from and some girls were recruited and they are under 18 years.
Fatima’s brother said the Kurdish People Protection Units YPG, the biggest faction in Syrian Democratic Forces SDF alliance, allowed families in al-Jat village after prayers inspect the houses. When a group of people including my brother and my sister from the western bank of al-Sajour river arrived to the bridge, the checkpoint banned men from crossing the bridge and allowed women only. Men returned to Um al-Qura mosque waiting for women to come back.
He added, “My sister Fatima inspected her brother’s house in the area controlled by SDF alliance and she came back to the mosque with a relative, she wanted to wash her face in a long Ramadan day. At that moment, a Kurdish fighter lured Fatima to inside the mosque and she disappeared after that.”
He confirmed that her relative waited for her for 15 mins and then she demanded they bring her back and they expelled her. The relative saw a car in front of the mosque in which women got on to go to unknown place.
The relative told us what happened and I told my family. A group from family went to demand her release. They allowed them entrance to the mosque to make sure she is not there. The militia said, she came in to drink water and left although Fatima was fasting.
In the second day, the village locals gathered and protested to release Fatima. SDF tried to disperse the protesters with fire. They told the locals she was transferred to Ayn al-Arab.
The officer in-chief told the families, “she came to this checkpoint and asked to volunteer in our ranks. You can call her, but it is impossible for her to return and we are ready to fight for her to stay with us.”
The tension arose because of the arrest of Fatima between the Arab tribes who showed solidarity to al-Bu Sultan tribe to which Fatima belongs.
SDF promised the issue will be solved on Sunday, but a big ISIS offensive on the US-backed SDF alliance prevented meeting on Sunday, according to Fatima’s brother.
He pointed out that leaders in YPG and SDF said they will broadcast a footage showing that Fatima came to them by her own will.
PYD armed men had kidnapped young woman Nora Hussein from Mabatl in Efrin on January 12 during her return from hairdressing on her wedding day.
They also kidnapped Jaylan Akram (15) in front of their house in Qamishli in on May 15 2015, Jaymen Sadiq Ahmad (14) from her school in al-Qahtaniye on November 4 2014, Aheen Hazni and Media Omar from al-Malkiye, Roza from Ayn al-Arab and Hamreen Aydi, Parishan Taha Mustafa from Amouda and many others.
The kidnapping of young women and men was repeated in areas under PYD control in Syrian north. The most which was circulated was when PYD kidnapped the minor Hamreen Aydi in Amouda in Hasaka countryside on December 23 2014.
Her family insisted on knowing all the details and protested to PYD to bring her back at a time when the media did not report many cases for reasons related to fear of PYD threats and because of tradition which silence incidents like this. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
