(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hepatitis A has spread widely in the toen of Salhab and surrounding villages in Sahl al-Ghab due to lack of clean drinking water forcing people to drink wells’ water.
Dozens of children were infected with hepatitis A, pushing their parents to rally in the town demanding changing the director of Water corporation in Hama.
Salhab town and surrounding villages suffer of frequent water cut-off, sometimes lasted to 10 days, which forced people to depend on wells’ water, which are most likely to be contaminated, causing infection of hepatitis A and other intestinal infections.
Regime-support Facebook pages reported that people in the area have complained dozens of times to Water corporation and governor of Hama to provide them with clean drinking water, but there was no response.
On the other hand, director of water corporate in Hama confirmed to a local newspaper that they do their best to sort out water problems, detailing that new water network have been installed for two villages, and drinking water would be delivered to people in Salhab town and surrounding villages very soon.
Water examination by the Directorate of Health in Hama confirmed contamination and it was the source of infection. The directorate mentioned that the National hospital in Hama admitted many case in Hepatitis A and intestinal infection, and they received treatment.
Dozens of people accepted the appeal of the Facebook page called “Salhab news”, calling them to gather and demonstrate at the exit of Sakliyah village, where they demanded proving clean drinking water, other signboards demanded changing the director of water corporation.
