Al-Raqqa, Bitter loss for Assad and Iran

The falling of Al-Raqqa city has been a big loss to the Syrian regime, even if some observers think that the forgotten city has nothing to attract Damascus government we shouldn't forget that the main three dams that affiliate to the remote city – within Euphrates dam- considered the main source for electricity and irrigation power.

Al-Raqqa considered now as an Emirate affiliate to what so-called 'The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham', al-Qaeda linked group and the most extremist wing of the Islamic movements,  in very dramatic way was fall by ISIS where analysts said the fall of the city of tribal background was Assad's choice.

Eqtsad, Zaman Alwasl Business website, said that Iran was the biggest loser of al-Raqqa fall because it has the largest proportion of Iranian investment in Syria.

It is well known that Iran spends a great deal of money on projects for spreading Shiism over the world, and that fitted with the Syrian regime’s goals.

It is clear that Iran has not benefited the Syrian people in any project, moreover Iranian investments in Syria are the lowest among investor.

On the other hand, all Iranian support was directed to strengthen the regime, like arming and extending expertise in repression and security and espionage. as well as dissemination of the shiitsm doctrine.

Iran chosen to spread Shiitsm in Eastern area of Syria for many reason, the first was the poverty in the area as a result of regime’s neglect, which made people easily accept financial incentives for following the Shiite doctrine. The second  is the distance of the region from major cities, where Iran could operate without drawing any attention. The third and the most important reason is finding a barrier between western Iraq  and the internal part of Syria because both of them belong to one doctrine, the Sunni, that barrier would stop any future cooperation or union between these two regions.

Bashar al-Assad allowed Iran to spread the Shiism in Syria, therefore Iran spent a lot on projects, explicitly centres for spreading the Islamic culture, but implicitly they were project to spread Shiism and other goals were discovered after Syrian revolution.

Al-Raqqa had the most support from Iran, even “Hawzas”, centres to teach Shiitsm, became normal phenomena and al-Raqqa became called “Safavi Crown Diamond”

Finally, Mustafa Tlas, former Ministry of Defense, said that when Khomeini came to power in Tehran, Hafez al-Assad commented joking: “we have won another Baathist”. The fact is that Hafez al-Assad was hiding behind “al-Baath” to do whatever benefits him, he came to power, and cover his sectarian attitude, and tried to rule Arab world under the cloak of Arab unity and Arabism, under the name of Baath Party.
