(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hundreds of acres of planted land in Bashragi village subordinate to Bayt Yashout in coastal city of Jableh were confiscated by Agriculture Directory in Latakia Province on grounds the land has not been cultivated and planted by farmers for a long time. Owners of the land confirmed most of the confiscated area are fruit orchards productive and well-invested in.
The story began with Agriculture Directory delegate visit to the village. The delegate registered the names of the land and its owners and the area of each orchard.
Abu Basel, a farmer in the village, pointed out that notifications were sent to many farmers to hold farmers of not working in some fields and orchards which they own considering it a forestry land whose ownership return to state.
Media activist Mohamed al-Sahili said the Agriculture Directory threatened us with prison and a financial fee in case we plow and planted the seized land.
He added, “the land is our only source of income. We inherited it from our parents and grandparents. We will not give it up even if we had to defend it with our blood.”
Farmers in the village wonders by what right a land is confiscated whose owners volunteered and committed in the ranks of the Syrian Arab Army and who many of them were martyred on fighting fronts. They did not think the state will confiscate a land for soldiers who were defending it since 6 years.
-Search for officers-
Agriculture engineer Haydar Shareebeh followed up the case in the Agriculture Directory and he concluded that employees at the directory employees are only a tool to implement an order by senior officers in the security and army and they confiscate the land to their own accounts. He pointed out the confiscation process was not recorded in directory registers, but was delivered to the directory directly.
He said to al-Sahili, "they claim that Ministry of Agriculture seizes the land under pretext its not planted, but in fact senior officers in army and security are the ones who become owners of the land. The army and security in which our sons fight in their ranks. What is most strange is that confiscated land ownership goes back to families of martyr and soldiers fighting the terrorists."
The engineer Shareebeh did not exclude that process is a big conspiracy in which state participates giving the land of simple farmers as a reward to senior officers to make them continue in their loyalty to the leadership.
-New lands-
Many farmers showed readiness to do anything to prevent seizure of their land by “who are supposed to protect them and offer them financial assistance and fertilizers and agriculture equipment.”
In the first step of its kind, they filed a complaint to Bashar al-Assad demanding stop of this farce and investigate it to prevent government ISIS and corrupted officers of committing this crime in their right.
Zaman al-Wasl obtained private information which confirm that Agriculture Directory received orders to seize the land in other villages like Stamou, Dahir Barakat, Bashili, Bahmra ad others.
Source in the directory who spoke on condition of anonymity pointed out that most of the villages where land will be confiscated has a great touristic site and he said that those in power will likely build hotels and parks on the lands. (Translation by Rana Abdul)
