Information revealed by the fire brigade in Latakia showed that fire was broken out Thursday in 4 containers of this chlorine acid, and the fire brigade needed to use lots of water and foam and powder to control the fire.
The fire resulted in heavy smoke covered the sky over wide area, coloured in white and black many times which caused a status of fear among civilians, but fortunately wind kept the smoke high and separated it quickly.

Chlorine acid id consists of chlor and hydrogen, it has strong burning effects if it is used in its liquid form.
A retired chemistry officer talked to Zaman Al Wasl on condition on anonymity that regime used chlorine acid in its gaseous form to bomb civilians. It causes irritation f eye, skin and difficulty in breathing, it it was of high concentration, it could cause death due to oedema in irritation in the respiratory track.
The officer mentioned that Syrian regime uses chlorine acid in making some poisoning materials like chlorid and astofin chloride which is produced in the research centre at low cost.
Sources obtained by Zaman AL Wasl revealed that containers were emptied from a Russian ship called Siberia, a worker confirmed that Russian officers supervised transferring the shipments before running away in their cars.
The worker confirmed that many Russian ships had before carried similar containers last month those were transferred by military trucks somewhere, but he expected that they transport them research centre as he heard that from the officers who supervised transporting the containers.

“Hona Latakia”, a facebook page mentioned that chlorine acid has leaked from one of the containers and was set on fire on its own when it touched air, the fire caught other containers.
The Syrian regime had bombed civilians in areas under opposition control dozens of times with with chloride killing hundreds and injuring thousands, apart from the big massacre in Damascus Ghouta three years ago in which more than 1500 civilians were killed.
