ISIS attacks U.S.-backed opposition forces on Iraqi border

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Field sources reported ISIS forces launched an attack Sunday on Tanaf border crossing where the New Syrian Army is located and violent clashes occurred between the two sides.

The sources stated that the Islamic State started a broad attack at dawn with the aim of taking control of the most important crossing point at the Iraqi border, and the battle with New Syrian Army forces extended until around 7 am on Sunday.

The source indicated that the Alliance airplanes supported the New Syrian Army members in defending the border crossing as the planes took off from Jordanian soul and executed a number of strikes resulting in the destruction of ISIS machines.

The Alliance also executed illusionary strikes over al-Rakban camp, breaking the sound barrier and throwing sound bombs, leading to a wave of panic among the refugees fleeing the hell of battles. The source concluding indicating that ISIS had set up checkpoints on the international road leading to Baghdad with the aim of searching cars that usually transport the refugees to the camp.

Since the announcement in March 2016 of the New Syrian Army controlling
Tanaf border crossing, members of ISIS have tried to regain control of Tanaf border crossing and with that aim they have launched repeated attacks with the aim of evicting the New Syrian Army from the border crossing which the army is using as its principle base to launch its offensive operations against ISIS in most areas.

In May 2015, ISIS took control of Tanaf border crossing from the regime forces for the regime to lose the last official border crossing with Iraq.
