Lebanese army forcibly evacuates Syrian refugees camps

(Zaman Al Wasl)-Syrian refugees in al-Manya camp in northern Lebanese city of Tripoli said army personnel warned managers of 17 camps to evacuate during 48 hours starting Monday.

Refugee Abu Hasan al-Idlibi told Zaman al-Wasl the Lebanese army will bulldoze each camp which does not evacuate.

Idlibi who resides in Naser al-Zareqa camp confirmed that Lebanese army personnel arrested 20 refugee young men by raiding the camp under pretext of refugees owning motorcycles.

He mentioned the Lebanese officer warned orally during the raid the residents in the camps in the town to start deportation during two days without locating any alternative land to build their camps or where to they can head.

A local source told Zaman al-Wasl the camps which started evacuating are Udai Hilal camp, Mohamed Abu Hasan camp, Nasal al-Qaydi camp, Mohamed Abbas camp, Hatem Dawlat al-Abed Satar camp, Abu Khaled al-Jamal camp, and al-Makhaseem camp.

Residents from Khaled Alam al-Din camp, where families from Hama and Homs live in al-Manya town, said the Lebanese officer told them not to establish any camps in the area extended from Tripoli to the Syrian borders.

The refugees fear a human disaster facing them after evacuation and deportation from the camps because they did not find a land to rent to shelter their families and children before Monday evening.

Social actors in the city called on all human rights advocates and relief organizations in Lebanon to secure an alternative for the families who are mostly women, seniors and children.

The Lebanese army procedures fall into what the army calls, “a security plan” started two weeks ago in most areas where Syrian refugees live. The army launched a series of arrest campaign and confiscation of the refugees’ motorcycles especially in Bekaa, Tripoli, Arsal, and al-Manya.
