(Zaman Al Wasl)- Brigade 24, the largest of the air forces of the Syrian national Army is at the brink of complete collapse as only two aircraft “MEG 21” left besides 6 pilots stayed. those pilots committed most of the terrible massacres in the Eastern and Northern region of Syria (Deir Ezzor, Raqqa, Hasaka and Eastern of Aleppo).
The remaining pilots are: the Brigade Commander Brigadier Pilot Amin Bsesini, from Kardaha, the home town of Bashar al-Assad, Brigadier Pilot General Ahmed Suleiman from the countryside of Tartous, Colonel pilot Haidar Esber from Jableh, Colonel pilot Ali Abdullah from jableh, Colonel Ali Hamza from Masyaf, the colonel pilot Imad Mizher from Sweida, according to sources.
Zaman Al Wasl in this occasion rewinds the history of Brigade 24 since it started bombing civilians. It was commanded by three of the most brutal pilots, started with General Bassam Haidar who was the representative of Major General Jamil al-Hassan in Northern of Syria, besides his deputy, Brigadier pilot Ali Sarhan, and the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General pilot Mahmoud Yousef.
Brigade 24 consisted of 3 training squadrons of MIG-21, Squadron 10 Deir Ezzor airport, besides squadrons 8 and 12 in al-Tababka airport. The last two squadrons merged in the beginning of the Syrian revolution due to lack of readiness and shortage of pilots. Since its formation, brigade 24 had never equipped with ammunition for defense against any external enemy.
By the summer of 2012, brigade 24 was equipped with 30 dual and singular aerial training MIG-21, although they were technically expired with low readiness, the regime's policy indicated that they must keep flying as long as they operate, ignoring the safety of pilots.
Intensive raids on the neighbourhoods of the Northern and Eastern regions in done by aircraft of Brigade 24 reduced the readiness of the majority of aircrafts threatened of collapse, which forced the brigade commander at the time, Bassam Haidar, to request Major General Jamil al-Hassan to send him two groups of aircraft, one of each squad “20 and 22” to cover the intended targets.
Jamil al-Hassan sent 4 "MIG 23" aircrafts from al-Seen Airport to Deir Ezzor Airport, led by Colonel pilot Ali Alderboli, and other 4 "Sukhoi 22" aircrafts from al-She’erat airport to al-Tabaka airport, led by Colonel pilot Malik Abbas, both of them carried out hundreds of air strikes.
Deterioration of the readiness of the Brigade 24 started in August 2012 when the leadership of the Air Force halted training aviations and allocated all flights' time to bomb rebels’ areas, especially in the countryside of Deir Ezzor and later countryside of Raqqa, Hasaka and Aleppo. The continuous flying of already worn out aircrafts led to quick collapse of the readiness appeared in technical malfunctions which was exacerbated by the lack of spare parts for aircraft.
Moreover, many pilots defected from the army especially Sunni officers except the Deputy Brigade Commander Brigadier Pilot Sarhan Ali and Colonel Pilot Abbas Sheikh. The defection caused significant gap in the brigade. The first pilots defected from Brigade 24 were: Colonel Pilot Abdessalam Hamida, Colonel Pilot Haitham al-Zilli, pilot Colonel Mustafa al-Halabi, the pilot Col. Moataz Raslan, pilot Colonel Mustafa Drbok, pilot Abdullah Qashit.
The Brigade 24 lost a number of aircraft, where 5 fighter MiG-21 were shot down, besides many were destroyed while parked in the airport of Deir Ezzor an al-Tababka, moreover three pilots were killed and two pilots had severe injuries.
The regime had through pilots of Brigade 24 committed a large number of massacres against Syrian people, especially when it was commanded by Bassam Haidar as he issued instruction to pilots to bomb any gathering a human within the area covered by the brigade.
According to the same source, the brutality of Haider was met with his officers’ like Colonel Pilot Ali Hamza besides pilots of the two supporting groups “ MiG-23, and Sukhoi 22 “ who committed the massacre of al-Kaziya in Tel Abyad September 23, 2012, followed by several massacres in Deir Ezzor Abu Kamal and al-Muhassan, besides massacres of Raqqa, Ain Eassa and the countryside of Hasaka.
Brigade 24 had operated thousands of raids against civilians to supress the revolution, killing thousands, displacing hundreds of thousands. The brigade commander, Haider, and his deputy and his chief of staff began operating raids themselves to prevent any pilot from objecting or refusing bombing innocent civilians.
Haidar demanded his deputy, Brigadier General pilot Ali Sarhan of Deir Ezzor, to bomb the neighbourhoods of Deir Ezzor, his home-city, he followed the task and killed people of his town even of his own tribe
