(Eqtsad)- Prices of food has risen in the town of Markada in the southern countryside of Hasaka, the last stronghold of the Islamic State, due to the rise in the exchange rate of the US dollar from SYP 515 to SYP 525, added to fear among people of lack of food and stopping delivering them to the town.
Activist Malaz al-Yusus reported that the amount of food products has started to decrease in the market of Marakada town southern countryside of Hasaka, leading tp rise in their prices, added to clashes northern of the town with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which cut routes leading to the town.
Al-Yusuf mentioned that people complain of lack of bread as the amount delivered to area does not cover people’s needs, beside the closure of the bakery due to lack of flour. Bread is delivered to the town and sold at price of SYP 350 for a bag of 8 loafs, that forced people to start making their bread on their own using kiln.
The Islamic State prevent selling frozen poultry and mortadella, market of Markada almost empty, because people afraid of the US-led alliance air strikes, and most people had left villages of Fadghami and Zayanat to safer places in the countryside of Deir Ezzor , according to the activist.
The activist mentioned that the flour is sold for SYP 200 per one kilogram, sugar for 625, the Egyptian rice for 675, margarine 850, tea 3500, and bulgur 350, a box of 30 eggs for 1350, one litre bottled water for 200, one kilogram Chicken 1500, red meat 2400, red lentils 600, black lentils 375 and vegetable oil for 850.
The activist mentioned that lack of job opportunity and frequent disconnection of electricity has deepened the suffering of people, not to forget lack of drinking water as they need to buy it at a price of SYP 400 for a barrel of 200 litre.
prices of fuel has increase as well due to blockade enforced by SDF and preventing raw fuel from entering, moreover, residents fear of working in primary refineries as many of them were targeted by the US-led alliance air strikes, al-Yusuf detailed.
the Primitively refined diesel is sold for SYP 75-80 per a litre, while the benzene is for SYP 110-120 and gas is not available at all, despite the town is next to gas fields Southern of Hasaka.
