Bulgaria detains 3 Syrians over terrorism charges

(Eqtsad)- The first court session for three Syrian young men accused of terrorism after arresting them in their illegal attempt to enter Turkey via Bulgaria February 10, 2016. The case stayed in court, till it reach to media after announcing that Bulgarian authority had arrested 3 terrorists.

To come across details of the case, Eqtsad contacted Mohammed Ezzidin, Head of the office of Syrian Association for Syrian Refugees rights in Bulgaria, who followed the case since the beginning and had an idea about all detailed since arresting the three men till the court session.

The case started when three Syrian men (Abdul-Hamid al-Mohammed and Fadi al-Abdullah from Deir Ezzor, Jasim Findi from Daraa) were arrested in the city of Svilengrad during their attempt to illegally cross to Turkey with help of an Egyptian human trafficker.

They were charged of illegal entry to the country and sentenced of 6 months imprisonment with suspension and fine.

However, when the Bulgarian Authority searched the mobiles of the three men, they found photos and conversations, which were perceived that they were intending to join the Islamic State and Muslim Brotherhood, and decided to refer them to prosecution specialised in Terrorism, and were transferred to detention centre in Sofia.

Ezzidin contacted families of the three men, who confirmed they have nothing to do with terrorism or any other organisation, all they did that they run away from the war and applied for asylum in Germany, when they were granted the residency , they wanted to come to Turkey to see their families.

defence lawyers insisted that the three men were innocent, and there is no enough evidence for accusation, and photos and conversation were not enough, according to the head of the office of Association for Syrian refugees rights. He added that lawyers demanded dismissing the case, but the judge postponed it to September 19, 2016 to listen to witnesses and evidence.

The lawyer requested re-translating evidences and files as many mistakes in translation has change the meaning.

Ezzidin, has via Eqtsad appealed to Bulgarian Authority to re-examine the case, as he trusts the Bulgarian law and justice and to take the circumstances of the young men and their young age in account, and drew attention that photos found in their mobiles can be found in many Syrian young men phones. He mentioned that the way of dealing with the case by the media, especially after the incidents Germany, had negative effects of the case.
