(The Daily Star)- The Lebanese Army said Wednesday that four Syrian nationals who had arrested for their alleged links to militant groups were referred to the judiciary.
An army statement said Abdallah Muhammad Zakariya, Abdel Halim Abdel Hakim Bakkar, Ahmad Abdel Hamid Shehadeh and Muhammad Tareq al-Daher had joined “terrorist groups” that were attacking military outposts in the northeastern border town of Arsal.
Lebanese security agencies regularly arrest Syrian nationals for illegal settlement or for allegedly belonging to militant groups.
Hundreds of militants belonging to ISIS and the Fatah al-Sham Front, formerly known as the Nusra Front, are holed up on the outskirts of northeastern border towns Arsal, Ras Baalbek and Al-Qaa.
Al-Qaa, which lies close to the Syrian border, was rocked by eight suicide bombings in June, and the attackers turned out to be Syrian.
