(Zaman Al Wasl)- A Syrian baby was born this week in a rare condition known as Mermaid syndrome in al-Zafaraneh village in central Homs province.
The doctors at first could not identify the sex of the baby, who passed away 10 hours later, a male, due to tragic fuse of the legs.
A medical source in Talbisa Central Hospital said Doctor Kemal Bahbouh operated caesarean to deliver the baby Friday and the baby was transferred to incubator department.

The mother of the fish-like born baby (32) was suffering from eclampsia and the child, born to two closely-related couple, was suffering internal deformities.
The medical source added this extremely rare case is not the first in the northern countryside of Homs. Two years ago in the same hospital, another case was witnessed of a female child who lived for only 2 hours.
There only two cases of children born with Sirenomelia known alternatively as Mermaid syndrome; Milagros Cerron Arauco born in 2004 in Peru and Tiffany Yorks (30) from the United States. The two survived Sirenomelia following successful surgery to separate the legs.
