(Zaman al-Wasl)- An Israeli journalist and researcher Elizabeth Tsurkov said, “it is very frustrating that some attacked the former spokesman of Jaish al-Islam based on mistranslation of the interview I conducted with him.”
She indicated to Zaman al-Wasl that, “It is frustrated from some Syrians ignoring what she has done for Syria and Palestine focusing only on my citizenship which I did not choose.”
Regarding the mistranslation part and the original statement of Islam Alloush, the former spokesman of Army of Islam, Tsurkov said, “the interview was originally in Arabic, but I published it in Hebrew at the beginning and then I published the text of the interview in Arabic on my official page, when false information started circulating around its content.
She added, “Alloush said that Syrians decided if they want peace with Israel after Assad leaves. Al-Mayadeen station circulated that Alloush said “peace with Israel is possible”.”
Regarding the reason which pushed al-Mayadeen and other pro-Assad media to distort the content of the interview, the activist responded, “because they want to prove Assad regime lies regarding relations between Israel and Salafists in Syria.
And here I am stress again that I am not part of the Israeli Government. I am a researcher and human rights activist and against Israeli government policies towards Palestinians.”
Asked if Alloush statement regarding peace with Israel is the only motive for his resignation, Tsurkov said, “I do not know and I do not want to guess regarding this issue.”
Tsurkov expressed her “sadness” again because there are people who believe that talking with Israelis is illegitimate knowing that she works for Palestinian human rights and she stood with the Syrian revolution since its outbreak and that she wrote about the courage and suffering of Syrians trying to contribute to instill attention for international media in the Syrian cause.
She added, “my researches aim to raise awareness in the Israeli public that Syrians and Muslims are not our enemies and they are humans like us who deserve freedom, protection and dignity. I lost good friends in Syria killed by sniper bullets and bombings. I build friendships with Syrians that changed my life and enriched it. I regularly donate to NGOs that help Syrians and what I want at the end for others to stop judging me because of citizenship since I did not have the choice.”
Few hours ago, Islam Alloush announced his resignation in an official statement saying, “due to public good, I declare I am Captin Islam Alloush from Jaish al-Islam resignation from my post as official spokesman. This announcement is because of the links of spokesman post relations with media outlets which is different from other posts in the army which are limited between the affiliates.”
