FSA backed by Turkish jets takes new ground from ISIS near border

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Free Syrian Army backed by Turkish jets on Sunday has taken four villages  from the Islamic State near the Turkish border, activists said.

FSA's remarkable advance in the northern countryside of Aleppo city came as part of Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield to clear ISIS out from its southern border region.

FSA took villages of Bab Laimoon, Haj Wali, Bouraniya near strategic Jarabulus town.

Local Coordination Committees said Free FSA captured Tal Assad village located east of al-Raie after clashes with ISIS.

Media reports said resistance is only 10 Km away from capturing the whole border line in the Gandoureh pointing out the resistance launched an extensive attack on ISIS locations seizing Arab Izzeh, al-Fursan, Laylawh, Ras al-Juz villages. The clashes arrived at Ghandoureh town, midway between Jarablus and al-Rai.

On Saturday, Turkish armored vehicles entered the Syrian town of al-Raie in the northwestern Aleppo. The town, which shares a border with the city of Azaz controlled by opposition forces, has frequently changed hands between the Free Syrian Army and ISIS.

Also, the Turkish jets hit four ISIS positions in al-Kadi and Wuguf areas in the northwestern countryside.

Operation Euphrates Shield, which was launched on Aug. 24, aims at improving security, supporting coalition forces, and eliminating the terror threat along Turkey’s border through FSA fighters backed by Turkish armor, artillery, and jets.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the regime of Bashar al-Assad cracked down on pro-democracy protests. (With AA)
