Eid of refugees, full of painful memories

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Despite all pain and deprivation, Eid ceremonies still can be seen in refugees camps in Lebanon, Wasim, 16, said to the Abo Khalid, the owner of what so called "Barber Saloon" of the camp.

Once Wasim sat on the barber chair, he started telling what he saw in his way to the barber, as if he was talking to himself: “Near a poor tent two elderly women sat, remembering in tears their sons, daughters and grandchildren who have not seen them for 6 years, and they talk to each other how happy the first day of Eid use to be in their villages in Homs' countryside”.

Wasim continued telling the story of a man he met in the camp’s so called “square”, as he was looking in faces of young men aiming that his son who was buried near Turkey’s borders, would be among them,.

“From another tent, a young woman in her twenties, holding hands of her two son who became orphans, she sworn that she would not get married till they grow up” wasim carried on telling what he has seen in his walk to the barber.

“Lastly, in my way to the barber tent, I saw a lady in her forties looking for a mobile signal to send Happy Eid wishes to her mother that been away from her for 4 years”, wasim ended before he goes a short nap under the sound and vibration of shaving machine.

In hi short nap, Wasim traveled back to his Homs city, where he used to walk in Dablan street, passing the mosque of Khalid Bin al-Walid, going to the clock square, before waking up at the word "Naeeman"

Eid in refuge and outside the country or even home town is painful, it deepens the feeling of alienation and deprivation, but still, children have that talent to pick up the moment of happiness however hard the circumstances are.
