(Zaman Al Wasl)- Lebanon's Minister of Labour Sajaan Qazzi has announced a new era in dealing with Syrian refugees in Lebanon when he said: “Syria for Syrians, and Syrians to go to Syria”, considering that Syrians in Lebanon form pressure and burden on the country.
Qazzi expressed that he found Lebanese people have become like Syrians and Lebanese looking for its identity and stability.
“we do not want emotion, we need a practical project to return Syrians to Syria in order to keep Lebanon for Lebanese and Syria for Syrians, as the return of Syrians to their country would is a necessity for the conflict to have its right situation.
Qazzi claimed that “national Identity” is at risk of being changed and Lebanese entity is in danger, therefore, sending Syrians back to their country is a need. He confirmed that all Ambassadors love Lebanon and no one is planning for settling Syrians in the country, but the alternative solutions indication that and could lead to settlement of Syrians.
The minister announced that the title of the coming era is: “Syria for Syrians , and Syrians to go back to Syria” within a comprehensive an detailed project starts 2017 and could lasts for 2 year.
Qazzi requested a financial support from Arabic countries and donating countries to cover the cost of the project to return Syrians.
Total registered refugees in Lebanon reached to 1,033,513 in June 30, 2016, however, from May 6, 2015, UNHCR Lebanon has temporarily suspended new registration as per Government of Lebanon's instructions. Accordingly, individuals awaiting to be registered are no longer included. The number of other Syrians live in Lebanon without registration with UNHCR reach to 247,736. Almost for each 5 people in Lebanon there is one Syrian.
Unlike other neighbouring countries like Jordan, Turkey and Iraq, there is no official camps for Syrians in Lebanon, as opponents to founding camps claim that they would give Syrians the opportunity to settle down in Lebanon, and Beirut does not want to repeat the experience of Palestinians in Lebanon.
Most Syrians live in Northern Lebanon like Ersal and Biqaa, in collections of tents lack minimum living conditions.
